The 66th Cannes International Film Festival has just announced the list of films competing for the Palme d’Or, Un Certain Regard (Unique Perspective) and a number of films participating in this year’s screening in the beautiful coastal city of France.
The poster with an upside-down kiss is the symbol of the 66th Cannes Film Festival.
Famous Chinese director Jia Zhangke also returned to Cannes Film Festival with his latest work called A Touch of Sin (Thien Tru Dinh).
Cambodian cinema was surprised when the work L’Imagine manquante entered the competition list in the Un Certain Regard category – for experimental films.
This year’s Golden Palm marks the return of many big names.
American cinema occupies 4 places at the Palme d’Or and the directors are all familiar faces from the Cannes Film Festival in previous years – Alexander Payne, James Gray, Steven Soderbergh and the Coen brothers.

James Gray, the director whose three films were nominated for the Palme d’Or in 2000, 2007, and 2008: The Yards, We Own the Night, and Two Lovers, brought the psychological drama The Immigrant to Cannes this time.
The host country’s cinema, France, still dominates the list of 19 films competing for the Palme d’Or with 9 works, including films in collaboration with Denmark, Italy or Germany.
Only God Forgives is set in Bangkok, Thailand.
Female director Sofia Coppola’s new film, The Bling Ring (see trailer), also competes in Cannes this year but in the Un Certain Regard category.
The opening screening of the 66th Cannes Film Festival is The Great Gatsby (see trailer) by director Baz Luhrmann and the closing screening is Zulu by French director Jérôme Salle.
