Doctor Nguyen Thanh Binh, 42 years old, Deputy Head of General Planning Department, Central Tropical Diseases Hospital.
Doctor Binh said, preparing for the shift, the doctors and nurses brought shirts, hats, gloves, and an item that people had never used before – diapers.
Locked in standard protective gear while taking care of patients, just an hour later, their bodies were drenched in sweat.
Wearing protective gear properly is a very careful process, but taking it off is even more complicated because if you accidentally touch the outside with your hands, you will be infected with pathogens.
`Changing a new set is both time-consuming and expensive,` Dr. Binh said.
But as the number of patients increases and shifts lengthen, the option of reducing drinking water before wearing protective gear is not feasible.
`When we have diapers, we can comfortably work, recharge, and not have to face any more difficulties,` said Dr. Binh.

For doctors treating seriously ill patients, saving every hour and staying up all night is a regular requirement.
`At that time, it was too late to start wearing protective gear. That’s why the doctor kept wearing the entire set, including the night shift,` he said.
The Central Tropical Diseases Hospital is a frontline medical facility and has so far treated more than 100 Covid-19 patients, the most in the country.
`Having to have direct contact with patients, we can’t say we’re not worried,` Dr. Binh confided.
