Dzeko headed in a 2-1 victory for Inter.
Coach Simone Inzaghi replaced almost the entire squad in the 3-2 win over Empoli in the round of 16 of the Italian Cup a few days ago, keeping only winger Matteo Darmian and striker Lautaro Martinez.
While Inter showed its squad depth, Venezia lost serious strength.
The two teams also showed contrasting performances.
Events on the field also showed Inter’s superiority.
However, the away team surprised them when they took the lead in the 19th minute. Ethan Ampadu crossed the ball to the far corner, eliminating the entire Inter defense, allowing Thomas Henry to head the ball in an unmarked position and beat Samir Handanovic.
Venezia opened the score with Henry’s header, but could not surprise Inter.
Inter then rose up and controlled the match.
It took until the 40th minute for Inter to equalize.
In the second half, Inter created even greater pressure.
From midway through the second half, Inzaghi sent Arturo Vidal, Alexis Sanchez and Denzel Dumfries onto the field, but Inter’s attack only flourished in the final minutes.
