On June 24, at a press conference on the results of textbook selection in Ho Chi Minh City, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training Nguyen Van Hieu said that the Creative Horizons book series was chosen by more than 400 primary schools.
The deputy director of the Department of Education pointed out another reason why the book series was chosen by most schools is the `author’s reputation`.
The book set was also chosen by 11 provinces in the South, higher than other book sets: Ben Tre 90% of schools chose the book set;

Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, responded to the press.
Regarding the price of new textbooks being 3 times higher than old textbooks, Mr. Hieu acknowledged that `on average each set is about 300 thousand VND, which is quite high`.

The Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training also said that schools using different sets of textbooks does not affect the overall quality of education.
Not to mention, textbooks were previously an ordinance but will soon be used flexibly by teachers.
New textbooks have not yet been sold on the Ho Chi Minh City market.
Regarding the fact that many Department leaders have received remuneration from this publishing house, Mr. Hieu believes that it does not affect the fairness in choosing books.
`The Department has made no move to impose or implicitly direct schools to choose books. City teachers are not easily influenced and imposed, and the reputation and honor of the schools is very high,` Mr. Hieu said.
At the end of 2019, Education Publishing House said it would pay 11 officials and leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training for `textbook compilation support` of 2.5-6 million VND per month.
At the People’s Council meeting at the end of last year, Mr. Le Hong Son said that the Department coordinates with publishers to compile textbooks and that is the royalties and remuneration for those who make them.
