According to TSMC Chairman Mark Liu, the company’s $40 billion factory will complete construction and go into operation in 2027-2028 instead of 2026 as planned.

Mr. Liu said rough construction of the factory has begun, but TSMC `needs to consider how many incentives the US government can provide.`
This is not the first time TSMC, the world’s largest semiconductor processing company, has had to postpone plans to build a second chip factory in Arizona.
Previously, a report from Digitimes showed that TSMC will ask its customers to pay higher fees because the cost of building a factory in the US is much more expensive than in Asia.
US President Joe Biden’s administration currently considers domestic chip production a top priority.
TSMC once said that the first factory in Arizona will produce 4 nm chips and the second factory will produce 3 nm chips.
TSMC is also currently turning to Japan amid difficulties in the US.
According to analysts, TSMC is considering Japan as a more suitable place thanks to its similar working culture, close and widespread network of material suppliers, and the country’s government being easy to handle requests and generous.
